i was thinking it could be for another millitary unit?

why were they made in red?

William,

A small number of bikes were produced in red and white for the Army in NI. The thinking was, believe it or not, that a red or white bike would not draw attention to itself like a green one would!! This despite the fact that there were no civilian Armstrongs!

They did the same thing with green goddess fire engines and painted them yellow for NI.

We had at least two Red and two White ones at 33 EOD, RE, along with the green ones
