also known a PIGs because they look like them, drive like them.. I would have thought getting an MT in the back would be really easy due to the tall roof, wide doors and drop down step.

Looks like some fun to be had. Great for weekends away, bike in the back, bunks already there. Just need a little cooker and your laughing!

Should be tax exempt as long as the DVLA don't mess me about and stick to their own rules.

Built in 1971 but date into service is 1974 on the cast document.

before you take it for registration get onto LandRover for a proper manufacture date cert and use that rather than the 654 form its the only way to get it on its age plate rather than date into service. I have a feeling the landrover would have been built in 71 but then taken and modified hence the later into service date.

Good guess Pete, it left the factory on 20 April 1971, already got the dating certificate from the British Motor Heritage Trust.

I think 71 was the last year before the series 3 came out, the army must have done a deal to take the old series 2 vehicles Land Rover would have been stuck with as there seem to be a lot of ambulances with date into service after production finished.

I know if i was buying a new one in 1972 I would rather have the up to date model.

just noticed the interior pic... yep 2A, its very possible the front end was swapped to meet specs of the time to service BUT there was several civy 2A's sold new through dealers pre S3 but with the S3 front end on. Id be interested to see if it has the dual line servo assist brake system

Its like I saw a 90 go through on ebay listed as a 2.5TD, still had the 4 spoke steering wheel, and lots of the 90TD bits BUT was a first generation 200TDi right on the change to Defender, sold for a very low price
