Test drive to end all test drives.

Post by Korky » Sat Feb 02, 2019 10:11 am

About 15 years ago I used to travel to Barnstaple a lot on the link road. Saw a mega Defender for sale in a petrol station. Fell in love with it. The garage was Devon 4 X 4
and the Defender was one of their old competition vehicles. It really was trick.
I went for a test drive and was taken out by Simon Buck one of the best competitive drivers in the country, including the Rainforest Challenge.
It was mega, never been in a river before on a test drive!
What a driver and vehicle! Got to admit he did put the wind up me a bit. How could I not buy it?
I didn't keep it long as it was too extreme for road use. Huge Simex Extreme tyres were actually dangerous on tarmac and with the higher suspension felt it would tip over on every bend.
Sold the extreme Landy and now have a slightly modified Defender with Cooper Discovery STTs. Good off road and great on road.
Never forget the test drive tough!

I know Simon from my 4 wheel days, he is a top Land Rover competion man, runs an excellent garage down there and will always go the extra mile to help his customers. Also, did I say he can drive a bit!!!

Telling me! If I was half as good as him off road I'd still be pretty good.

That takes me back a bit. Dislocating suspension, simex tyres, and locking ARB diffs at either end, she used to go anywhere and everywhere!
