Good work Gronk! Looks like its been apart before as the final drive bearing should be a roller bearing and not a ball bearing.. Worth changing whilst its apart..

Did you get to the bottom of the knocking??

I recon that the knocking is sumert to do with the big end camshaft gudgeon pin area
yes will be replacing the bearings, I Didn't know they weren't the correct type but am replacing them all while I am in there.

removed the blined bearings with Russ's tool (slide hammer) and some heat.

then removed the main bearing with a bit of heat and a tool of my own creation.

But found that the best method of removing the bearings where possible was to heat up the area around the bearing, hold a large socket over the bearing and hit it with a big hammer.

the stamp date on the inside of the engine is only two days off my birth date (day and month that is not the year).
