For all that relates to both Armstrong MT 500 and Harley Davidson MT 350

Gave the bike a rather rigorous rub down with an oily rag
Topped up the fuel tank with Tesco’s finest
Took the bike for an MOT
Passed.
All is well with the world :D

ImageNot meaning to further tempt fate but here we go again.
Pulled MT from the garage last night with the aim of a blast round Wiltshire best lanes.
Started second kick again, Roy’s advice seems to really work.
One kick, ign off, fuel on, no choke, decompressor in.
Bring up to white spot, full choke, no throttle, ign on and away we go.
Anyway, had a great ride, longest yet, about 40 miles.

I’m still getting used to the handling but I have one question, bike is stable and will pull 80 but if I put a little wobble into the bars she weaves like a weave thing, is this the MT weight and a normal characteristic?
I’m not too happy with the tyres as the bike had stood before I bought it,
It has a Pirelli MT50 on the rear, 110/80 18.
Bridgestone Trailwing on the frontm 90/90 21. This looks to be on backwards but the arrow is facing the correct rotation. Both tyres like new.
It has MT350 front end and does tend to pull to the right if you brake hard.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mis-matched tyres which haven't run for a few years , rear the incorrect size
Forks changed, are all the rubber mounting parts present and in good condition The dampers have oil in them which a) can leak and not at the same rate on each side , b) should be changed every 2? years Are both forks MT350 forks?, the right hand one could be the original shorter 500 leg
Is the axle tight with the correct spacer?

I can only presume that if you were riding at 80mph you were on a private road ?

One MT350 owner who has a 500 engine fitted says he likes the additional squirt up to the legal limit, anything beyond that feels sketchy

Bearings in good condition? For the cost of them worth renewing

Wheel balanced correctly, rim lock or no rim lock?

If it were my (new ) bike, I'd fit new rim tapes and tubes. If I wanted to hoon about, fit the a pair of correct sized tyres Why ? Because I've taken tyres off 3 sets of MT350 wheels and have been horrified to see new tyres underpinned with old tube and rim tapes made of gaffer tape As for the tyre itself horses for courses road/off-road/ combination Trying to run off-road tyres at high speed on the road is a No No

This is what I love about this forum, great stuff I can do but perhaps wouldn’t have thought of, thanks a million Wirralman. I shall start with the tyres, tubes and tapes and move on from there.

Not planning anything hooligan, was just pushing her on, seems a bit flat at 60 to 70, wanting to go more. The new concrete roads across Salisbury Plain are a great test track. ( so long as you watch out for the red flags).
There is no weave, it’s just not stable if you make it weave. I’m just finding out how it handles and it feels a little vague.

Will spend most of my time on the road with the occasional trips around the Wiltshire byways so will try and find some suitable tyres. Seems to be a bit of a mine field, th forum seems to offer loads of suggestions.

Thanks again
