What will change after March 2019? (Brexit)

For all that relates to both Armstrong MT 500 and Harley Davidson MT 350

What will change after March 2019? (Brexit)

Post by Flying Dutchman » Tue Jan 01, 2019 7:35 pm

I don't know much about politics, but was wondering what will change for me as a Dutch MT-rider after March?
Will it become more expensive to buy MT-stuff in the UK? Will it become more difficult to import another MT to the Netherlands? (I imported the MT604 myself and it was pretty easy)
I've really got no idea.....

A so called "no deal scenario" will be something like this: The UK will shoot itself in the foot and an economic ice age will descend across the country. Xenophobia and intolerance will rise. There will be chaos at our major ports. Prices of imports will rise, prices of UK exports will rise, thus making the same more uncompetitive. UK jobs will be exported to within the EU to stay within the market that is our greatest customer. There will be a race to the bottom on workers rights as forces try to turn us into a Singaporean sweat-shop economy. The City of London money market will eventually move to Hamburg, Ultimately, long term there will be discord again in Europe and war will again break out.

There's lots more that will happen but the above are the highlights.

The Forum rules, written many years ago, ban posts about politics, there are plenty of other places for this

Might I suggest the moderators take the appropriate action.

No, i don't want to open a political can of worms. I am just a curious biker and better warned than too late to buy an extra British motorcycle easy.

Nothing will change Jan..

I sell parts world wiide and have to stick different labels on the package or fill in different forms depending where it goes on the planet!

You'll still get your MT parts in a few days just like computers still worked and your alarm clock did on 01/01/2000!!

We do indeed have a no politics rule , and strong opinions are held on both sides, .

It is fair question . At present , a UK supplier has to charge UK VAT when selling to a private individual elsewhere in the EU . There is no import duty for purchases from within EU.
After March 2019 , you should still be able to buy from UK suppliers directly. There should be no UK VAT charged. Instead , Netherlands VAT (called BTW) should be payable at point of entry into NL to the customs authorities there . There may also be import duty to pay in NL.
The same principle should apply to other EU countries customers buying from UK, eg a German customer to pay German VAT and duty.
That is current understanding of how it will be , things may change

You have asked a perfectly reasonable question, another member seems to want to turn it into something else
