MT Teeshirts

Post by Wirralman » Fri Apr 14, 2017 3:30 pm

A few years ago I compiled a list of FAQs with the collective knowledge of owners
It started with the section below Some newer members may find it of interest

As an aid to understanding MT’s and what goes wrong with them, here are some of the MT ‘Tee Shirts’ you can acquire throughout your ownership of an MT.
My carb overflow is pouring out fuel
My airbox has a puddle of fuel in it
My petrol tank and carb bowl were full of rust and sand.
My oil gushed out of front tube all over garage floor
I put too much oil in, now my airfilter is soaked and oil is covering the engine
I washed bike, now it won't go
My run switch shorted out in the rain
I can’t find neutral
I pulled the clutch in, selected 1st and the bike jumped forward 2ft then stalled
My starter motor makes a clunking sound
My lights and horn have suddenly stopped working
I ran out of fuel today
My tank has no reserve
Changed my cambelt today, but now my starter won’t crank
I opened a thread with a question that was answered in FAQs
My cambelt snapped but my spare was at home
I didn’t realise I’d knocked run switch
I didn’t realise I’d knocked blackout switch
I had brake fade today
I can’t get my brakes to bleed
I did carb mod and now have a flat spot
I did the carb mod and it now goes like stink
I broke my clutch cable and rode home with no clutch.
I broke my key in the steering lock
My Armstrong always starts second kick, unless there’s a crowd watching
I lost a centrestand spring today
I thought the red light was an oil pressure warning light or a charging light
I bunkered my bike home today
I bought an Original spare, then found a member selling one for a fraction of the price
I’m building up a supply of spares
I agonised over which colour paint to use,
I’ve routed a spare clutch cable in place
I hardly ever change my oil and run my bike infrequently because the clutch is sticky
My bike wouldn’t run at high speed, I loosened the filler cap and it flew.
My bike doesn’t run too well when the engine gets warm.
I asked what TP and ACCS stood for
What are those pointy things on the front of my MT350 handlebars?
Where does my MT500 pump fit ?
So the odometer is in km and the speedo is in MPH ???????????????
My metal plug cap arcs in rain
Went to a bike meet and parked the amongs t lots of exotic machines, but the MT attracted most interest.
I found some dodgy wiring on my bike
Bought an MT, then another....
I’m going to strip it down and rebuild it...
You don't need a f*****g chain tensioner !
You DO need a f*****g chain tensioner
I had to explain that my MT was not in WW2

Yes paint does come up frequently A later section of FAQs gave MT500 priming and UK colour code ( I don't know if RAL existed when they were made) Also the American paint code suspected used originally together with closest RAL code

I can add " started it in gear and we both fell over" wouldn't have been so bad if i hadn't been in front of about 100 others
