Manufacture Date?

Post by lukemarkle » Fri Sep 04, 2020 9:48 pm

Hello,
I am trying to work on exporting my 1996 Mt350 to the states when I move back this march 2021, but the only way it'll make the exemption is if it is 25years old to the day. My v5 says first registration is June 1996, but if the manufacture date is before I leave I'm golden... I just need a way to prove the manufacture date. Any help would be appreciated.

Your frame number has a manufacturing year within it. I'm sure Bunker posted the breakdown of the frame number.

Technical/ Manuals and Papers,/ MT or Rotax Technical then look at second thread VIN number clarification

Here it is.

From what i have read from other members attempts it is just sbout impossible to get an under 25 year old MT350 through the admin process to get a US license plate issued on import. ( Even though its a a US built Harley!) .
Over 25 years is more possible as you say , as i understand the rules are less strict .
Good luck , please let us know how you get on .

Unfortunately the 25 year exemption for importing the bike is down to the month.. So since I leave in march and my bike was first registered in June, it would t be old enough to qualify unless the production date is before I leave

You have two choices
1 leave the bike in UK for another year then ship it to US
2 ship it now and register it as a kit bike , which is how HDMT500 have been registered

One owner shipped his MT350 to US a few years ago but couldn't find any way to register it. Another registered two , but I think he was in US military so normal rules may not apply. Different states have different rules I believe so that confuses things even more
