HD MT500 owner

Post by stepside03 » Thu Dec 27, 2018 4:07 pm

I was just given my Dads Harley Davidson MT500 number 110 for Christmas! Excited to join the page. A couple questions I will ask here and post again once my account is upgraded.

Does the factory exhaust have a spark arrestor? The United States Department of Agriculture requires them.

I have been looking around the forum for larger footpeg options. It looks like a member in the UK was making some, CCM604 pegs fit and BMW GS pegs fit. BMW pegs are going to be the easiest for me to get here in the States and their are lost of aftermarket options. What model GS pegs am I looking for?

I am pretty sure HD MT500 have a flash hider as standard , have no centre stand fitted , a lower chain guard, slightly different carb, odometer reading in miles. UK models differ in these aspects

As for pegs, you can get your existing ones enlarged but they don't fold up so far . I don't know if other options also have that restriction

NB The frame number contains a year code, the numbers are reset to 00001 at the start of each year

Wow, what a Christmas present :)

When looking through the site, be aware of the difference between your HD MT500 (usually referred to as MT500e as it has the electric start) and the Armstrong MT500 (originally kick-start only and the predecessor to British Army's HD MT350).

Have a search for extended footpegs. Some have just welded an extra metal strip on to make them bigger.
